I have tried many different tools to produce my current writing system. Numerous types of software and hardware solutions have both come to my aid and become cumbersome and difficult to work with.
I will be adding entries to this blog of some of my attempts at finding a good writing system for me and from what I gather would possibly be a good writing system for you too.
I am not endorsed by anyone to give these recommendations and critiques, these are all my opinions and what works for me may not work for you, but at least you’ll have the information to give it a try.
I prefer a digital experience for ease of backup, portability, and generally more reliable way of keeping information.
One note is: Some of the solutions are technical, I’m a technically inclined person so using high technical level solutions come naturally to me.
For now, I will leave you with a small list, which, I will cover in detail in later posts.
Tools Surrounding My Writing
Obsidian – This data organizational software solution is highly useful when trying to keep track of a large and interconnected set of data. Find it at https://obsidian.md
Supernote – I have used a Supernote A5X for several years and have recently updated to the A5X-2 (Manta). This is where I do the majority of my first draft work. I prefer to work long hand, but want a digital experience. This is undoubtedly my favorite and most useful tool in my arsenal. Find at https://supernote.com
VORMOR M5 – This is a great way to keep ideas collected even when you are busy doing other things. I use it to audio-journal my way to actually putting something onto the page and it helps me remember the ideas I actually put into form in my mind, but can’t quite express yet. Find at https://www.amazon.com/Transcriber-Languages-Transcribe-Summarize-Interviews/dp/B0F65Z6XCV/
SyncThing – I use this software solution to sync my files around different computers. It is very simple to use and allows for great flexibility. You will want a solution like this when your computer takes a shit in the middle of your novel! Find at https://syncthing.net/
Google Docs – I use Google Docs for my typing first drafts
LibreOffice Writer – I use LibreOffice Writer to complete my written works and produce .epub documents.
novelWriter – I use this software solution to draft a full length document from my Supernote writing. Find at https://novelwriter.io
That is it for now, I will put together reviews and suggestions on how to use the tools I mention and more in following posts.
Until then, let’s say goodbye for now.
